1987-90
In 1987 The Residents were commissioned to write music for episodes of Paul Rubens's Pee Wee's Playhouse. The band had only one week in which to get the first episode's music done and the program called for 81 cues. In order to get the work completed on schedule the band started using a computer-controlled MIDI recording studio for the first time, leaving behind their old analog tapes.
Between 1987 and 1990 The Residents composed music for five episodes of the series as well as several commercials for Pee Wee Herman toys.
