THE COMMERCIAL DVD MAZE
The organization of the videos found on The Commercial DVD is set up as a maze.  The design uses three rings of concentric rooms.  There are seven rooms in each ring.  Each room contains two videos for songs from the album, including two bonus songs for a total of 42 videos/songs. One can move to the left or the right along the ring, or select the hole in the floor. The hole will take the player one ring further toward the center. In the center is a large heptagon, a seven sided room. Each wall contains two videos by The Residents. This adds 14 more videos to the total to make 56.
To make this trip considerably more complex, a giant black skull is also loose in the maze and will often and unpredictably block usage of an exit.
Also the rooms wrap on themselves in a manner that will jump you back to the outer most ring in a different place if you do not make it into the heptagon. The first design for a room looked like this.

By the time it was finished the rooms looked like this. The videos are playing in the "room" and by a simple click the "camera" will zoom in on the screen and you can watch the video.  This 3D movement is done with a standard DVD player and a TV, not a computer. When it finishes playing the video, one is returned to the maze. Of course, each video is only one-minute long.

It is possible to watch the videos in a number of other ways , even in a linear fashion if that is what you prefer.
