10th Anniversary Special(1982)

In celebration of its 10th Anniversary, Ralph Records assembled a special album of memorable music, but rather than the usual collection of songs from various groups on the label, they created a unique situation by hiring magician Penn Jillette. Jillette, well known for his long running Las Vegas act with with his partner, Teller, was relatively unknown at the time.

On Monday, March 1st, 1982, Penn was locked into a room in the Bentley Motel across the street from the Ralph headquarters in San Francisco and, for the next six days, was forced to listen to every album and single released on Ralph Records. After recording over fifty hours of Jillette's increasingly irrational comments, Ralph edited the magician's rant into a radio special that was then sent out to stations around the world.

In addition Ralph also produced a special anniversary gift pack containing golf balls, pizza pan holders, forehead thermometers, a windshield scraper and the famous Santa Dog Commemorative Sponge.

A one-sided 12" LP, 10 Years in 20 Minutes, was also released as part of the celebration.
